The mug

Standard 11oz — the usual mug size, 9.5 cm tall.

Or pick any colour — white

White is the printed surface itself, so it presses cleanest. A background colour is ink like everything else — strong colours work better than pale washes. We also keep it well clear of the handle, rim and base, where pressure is least even — that's the white margin you'll see around a coloured background on the strip.

One picture, plain white The simplest to press, so it's the cheapest.

The postage and the setup are the same whether we send one or six, so extras cost a lot less.

We'll send you a proper mock-up before it's pressed. We lay your pictures out at full print size, check them over, and email you the finished artwork to approve.

If anything won't work we'll tell you then — a picture that's too small will print soft, and some colours come out deeper on a mug than they look on a screen. We'll say what we'd change, or suggest a different picture, and you can decide. Nothing is printed until you say yes, and nothing is charged if you'd rather not go ahead.

What sublimation is, and what it can't do

The ink turns into a gas and bonds into the surface coating rather than sitting on top. Nothing to peel, crack or wash off — but it comes with two hard limits.

It only works on white or very light surfaces. The ink is see-through, so there's no white to print with. That's why a plain black mug can't be printed — the colour-changing mug is the exception: its black coating fades when hot to show a white surface underneath.
It only bonds to a coated surface. Our mugs are made for it — an ordinary mug from a cupboard wouldn't take the ink at all.

Why there's a border round the print

The press can't hold even pressure right where the handle joins, or where the mug curves away at the rim and the foot — print there comes out patchy. So there's a margin on all four sides, shown shaded on the strip. Pictures can sit right up to it, just not across it.
