Your picture
Bold shapes and clear light work best. Busy photos with soft backgrounds are the hardest to print well. Photographs usually look better in black and white; artwork and paintings look best in colour. A small but important colour — a flower, a ribbon, one bright highlight — can disappear entirely rather than print faintly, so if there's a colour you especially want kept, tell us in the notes when you order.
Portrait and landscape are the same plaque turned round — we'll match it to your picture automatically.

On its own, or mounted
A plaque is about 3 mm thick. The backing is a printed block we glue it to — thick enough to stand up on its own, with a slot built into the back so it'll also hang straight on a nail or screw if you'd rather. No frame needed either way.

A rough guide, not the finished thing
This preview is worked out in a second or two by snapping every part of your picture to the nearest of four filament colours. The real print blends between layers and picks up shades this can't show, so it always comes out better than what you're looking at.
The colours we'd use
Colours come from the filaments we have loaded, so a plaque is always an interpretation of your picture rather than an exact copy. We can swap any of them — after you order, we'll send you a render of the finished plaque and you can tell us if you'd rather a different set.
A plaque is built from up to four filaments in one job — more than that and the printer can't hold them all at once. That's plenty for most pictures, but a busy scene asking for five or six real colours will have some blended or dropped to fit.
Each one is printed and finished by hand, so there are faint layer lines and a little surface texture close up — that's how a printed piece looks. A plaque is made to be looked at from about 1 metre away or further; up close you'll see the layers and how it's built.
